GIFC 2023 Annual Meeting Minutes

The annual ferry meeting for 2023 was held on Feb. 18 at the hall. All committee members attended with 23 islanders present, plus 5 via zoom.

An update on the new ferry was given by John.

Andy gave a presentation on the upcoming haul out. Parking and security were main concerns. Allen stated that Brent Lindquist of the Anacortes police was the person to contact with problems or concerns.(360 588 8234)

Allen gave an update on the rate study (possible fare increases). There was lots of discussion on various issues. He encouraged people to attend the county's Feb. 28 meeting and to review the contractor's recommendations when they are available. In order to review and discuss the proposed rate changes it was agreed that another island-wide meeting would be held on March 5 at 2:00pm at the hall.

Fire chief Olivia Cole gave a presentation on emergency services; especially during the haulout. Her presentation was well received and she had numerous questions. She also encouraged islanders to check out emergency air transport insurance.

Nominations for the two open positions on the committee were held. Allen Bush and Becca Fong were nominated. Sandy McKean was nominated but declined to run for an additional term. Since there were only two nominations, the attendees voted to seat them on the committee. No election necessary.
